Abstract

Aim. To evaluate the association between the duration of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and erosive gastroduodenal lesions detected by esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

Materials and methods. This retrospective cross-sectional study included 2,924 patients with IHD. Patients were divided according to disease duration into ≤1 year (n = 414) and >1 year (n = 2,510) groups.

Results. Gastric erosions were detected in 14.25% and 11.67% of patients, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (χ2 = 2.23; p = 0.135). Univariable logistic regression also showed no significant association between IHD duration and overall gastric erosions (OR = 0.795; 95% CI, 0.588–1.075), and no significant associations were found for solitary, multiple, antral, fundal, or duodenal bulb erosions. The association with overall gastric erosions remained non-significant after adjustment for age and sex.

Conclusion. IHD duration was not significantly associated with erosive gastric or duodenal lesions in this study.
