Abstract

Background. Chronic heart failure (CHF) often requires ongoing management, and patients with CHF face significant challenges related to self-care and self-management. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a mobile application-based remote monitoring platform in improving the self-care capabilities of patients with CHF.

Materials and methods. A total of 142 patients with CHF of various etiologies were included in the study. During hospitalization, patients participated in structured classes covering various aspects of self-care and self-management. The study consisted of an active management group of 47 patients who used a mobile application for remote monitoring, and a control group of 95 patients who did not. The remote monitoring platform was based on the Russian-translated version of the European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior Scale (EHFScBS_9), which includes 9 items addressing various aspects of self-management. Responses were scored on a scale ranging from "completely agree"(1) to "completely disagree"(5), with lower scores indicating better self-care capability. The follow-up period lasted for 6 months.

Results. At the time of admission, the mean EHFScBS_9 score in the mobile application group was 15±2.3, whereas the control group had a mean score of 23.95±3.02, indicating significantly better self-care ability in the mobile application group (p<0.001).

Conclusion. The implementation of a remote monitoring platform based on the EHFScBS_9 scale, integrated into a mobile application, significantly improved patient adherence to care recommendations and self-care management. It also allowed for more efficient monitoring of disease symptoms and optimization of patient care, highlighting the potential of mobile applications in improving the management of chronic heart failure.
